We ship HOSTAS anywhere in the United States.
** PLEASE NOTE – Jeff is currently filling existing orders as quickly as he can while undergoing radiation treatment. He askes for your patience and promises to ship all orders as quickly as he is able **
When we receive an order, each hosta is selected/dug and the roots are rinsed clean of soil. The roots are then wrapped in damp paper towels and placed in a bag to keep the roots moist. The entire hosta is then wrapped in paper to protect the foliage during shipping. We ship via USPS Priority Mail (or UPS for larger boxes) and hostas usually arrive in 2-3 days.
Customers frequently ask what size hosta we typically ship. The answer really depends on what size the hosta is (mini, small, medium, large, giant) and how “new” the cultivar is to the market. Jeff takes great pride in the hostas he sells and ships … he does not sell “starter size” liners. Many of the hostas are mature divisions. Retail size will be 1-2 divisions (or better) and our very popular *Giantland Size* will be triple the number of divisions of the retail size.
Upon arrival: Jeff recommends unwrapping your hostas as soon as possible and then soaking the roots overnight (or at least several hours) before planting. We do also suggest staking your new hosta while it sets roots down in its new location. Do be careful not to over-water your new hostas … general rule of thumb is to let the soil dry between watering and only water if Mother Nature doesn’t do it for you.
Please keep in mind that Jeff is just “one man with a shovel” and does his very best to fill orders as expeditiously as possible. The beginning of the hosta season is always hectic and he often has many orders to fill when the hostas finally emerge in the spring and every single order is very important to us. Being in Zone 5, our shipping season does not typically begin until mid to late May, weather permitting.
If you have questions about shipping or an order placed, please feel free to email or call us (leave a message) and we will answer your inquiry as soon as we are able. Most days are long and exhausting during the shipping season, but we do care about our customers and their hostas.
